So Santa stuffed an awesome new computer under the tree for you this Christmas? Nice! Now all you have to do it take care of that shiny new piece of awesomeness. No worries, No Ware has you covered.
One of the best ways you keep everything running smoothly is to always be sure that your operating system is up-to-date. This is by and large an automated process these days, but it never hurts to do a manual check from time to time;
Windows 10 updates your OS automatically by default, pretty awesome right?
On Windows 8 and 8.1 bring up the Charms menu by swiping from the right to the left (or alternatively, pressing the Windows Key and the letter C), select “Settings”, then “Change PC Settings”, next select “Update and Recovery”, and finally “Windows Update”.
In Windows 7 you can access Windows Update by clicking “Start” then “All Programs”, and selecting “Windows Update”.
Mac OS X users just need to click the Apple icon on the upper left of their screen, select “App Store”, then “Updates”.
Speaking of staying up-to-date, you’re definitely going to want to make sure that your antivirus software is updated with the latest software upgrades and virus definitions. Yes Mac users, this includes you. Simply open your antivirus program, and click on the “update” button. After a short download you’ll be good to go. While you’re at it, run a quick scan, just to be sure.
While we’re on the subject of updates, it’s also a good idea to make sure that things like Office, iTunes, and other 3rd party software are up to date as well.
Now that we’ve taken care for making sure that the software is nice and tidy, we’re going to want to make sure that the computer itself stays clean. From time to time you’re going to want to blow the dust out of any vents, panels, nooks, and crannies (a can of compressed air will do just fine, and can often be picked up for a few bucks). This will keep the air circulating properly and help to prevent damage from overheating.
It’s that simple.
