Wanna Cry Ransomware

May 15, 2017 by Jeremy Marshall

Ransomware message

Last week a rather brutal piece of ransomware began making the rounds, impacting  nearly two hundred thousand computers; private computers used in homes, computers used in business environments, and even computers used by various government agencies around the world.

This piece of malware used an old vulnerability in the Windows operating system in order to encrypt all the data on a computer, and then attempt to extort money in exchange for decrypting the encrypted files.

Fortunately there is some security software that is able to detect and eliminate this threat before it effects a computer. In fact, Emsisoft, our antivirus of choice, is one of those pieces of software.

Happily, none of the over 200 computers protected by any of No Ware Computer Repair’s Maintenance Plans were affected by this nasty piece of malware. This fact demonstrates how a combination of having a solid security software, coupled with regularly scheduled and automated Patch Management is the ideal solution for securing your computer and it’s data.

To learn more about how No Ware can protect your computers, contact us now, before the next bit of nastiness rears it’s ugly head and takes your computers hostage!
