Every now and then we here at No Ware have the delight of rescuing a customer in distress.
She came our office in Grand Junction panicking and in tears. It seems one of her children accidentally reformatted a couple of her camera’s SD cards. The data seemed to be completely lost. Who wouldn’t panic, it was a disaster! Almost eight years of family pictures vanished with just one careless click. Her son’s first steps, her daughter’s first smiles, countless birthday parties and vacations; she told us it felt as if the best parts of her life had been erased.
We assured her that we would do everything possible to get it back.
It seemed that nothing had been done to damage the cards nor had any new information been placed on them, there was definitely room for hope. Leaving the cards with us, she went about her day feeling a little better. At least the tears had subsided.
As reformatting is basically a matter of file deletion, the file stays on the disk until it is overwritten with new information. The data recovery operation is based on scanning the disk to find specific information assembling the structures of a damaged file system.
There seemed to be enough information about the pictures left on the drive, and we were able to recover every photo and memory of her beautiful family for her using our “magic software”. Upon recovering the photos, we immediately set the family up with a secure backup plan in case the disastrous deed was done again.
It was with trepidation that she entered the store later that week. Her mood quickly changed to joy on hearing the news of full recovery and about the new insurance plan set up so it might never happen again. The customer was once again in tears, but this time they were tears of joy.
