One of our new clients purchased a small business a few years ago. The acquisition included the company’s computer, containing over a decade of legal paperwork, financial information, and customer data. The computer was an old Dell that had been built to run Windows XP, but had been upgraded with Windows Vista. In the spirit of, “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.” Our client continued to use this old computer and dated software that the original owner purchased and used.
It was all going “beautifully” until one day, two weeks before she needed to get her yearly financials to her accountant, the computer decided that it just didn’t want to start up any more, as old computers are prone to do. [Read more…]
If you live in a University town like Grand Junction then you know all about a crazy time of year called Finals Week. It’s common to see college kids shuffling around town with messed up hair, dark bags under their eyes, and an almost visible dark cloud following them.

We can try our darnedest to keep our hardware and software up to date, but sometimes the programs we have come to rely on just can’t be updated any more.
Over time, software developers eventually drop support for older “legacy” software so that they may focus their attentions of newer, more stable and up-to-date versions of the programs. They might even go out of business altogether, leaving their users to kludge together their own solutions to any problems that might arise.
Several people still use these “unsupported” programs for various reasons, but what happens when these old programs that we absolutely can’t live without can’t be run any longer?

Every now and then we here at No Ware have the delight of rescuing a customer in distress.
She came our office in Grand Junction panicking and in tears. It seems one of her children accidentally reformatted a couple of her camera’s SD cards. The data seemed to be completely lost. Who wouldn’t panic, it was a disaster! Almost eight years of family pictures vanished with just one careless click. Her son’s first steps, her daughter’s first smiles, countless birthday parties and vacations; she told us it felt as if the best parts of her life had been erased. [Read more…]
